First Flight with our 18-months twins

This is not the first time we travelled with the twins. But it is our first time flying with them. We have had several road trips to different parts of Malaysia that were peppered with the all-too-many meltdowns. They simply hated the long car rides and refused to sit in their car seats. They vomited, pooped and cried. It was horrible.

So for their first flight, I was praying for a better experience. And thankfully, it was comparatively quite all right. No number 2s, we didn't even needed to visit the toilet.

How to survive our first plane ride with toddlers/infants.

1) Choose a Short Flight - it was just a (mere) 4.5hrs flight away from Singapore. We chose Taiwan mainly because of proximity.

2) Bring food and comfort items - I got raisins, fingerfood and some simple toys. Airlines will provide some materials for kids but don't expect much and it tend to be for older kids. We got DIY puzzles which doesn't interest the 1 year old twins at all.

3) Bring extra change of clothes and diapers of course. You never know!

Some important tips: If you are travelling economy with infants (any children below 2 yrs old are infants in the eyes of the airlines), you are required to have your children sit in your lap. So always call them in advance (as early as you can), and request for a bassinet (which is free). This will certainly ensure that you get the seats with more leg space. We took EVA air's premium economy and managed to survive taking turns carrying one child.

What kind of food EVA Air does provide for infants?

Yikes! They give you bottled heinz baby-food with apple juice. As our kids are aspiring vegans, I specifically made requests for the airline to provide vegetarian food. On our flight there, they were great and gave us freshly prepared and warm baby food (potatoes and carrots) but on our return flight, we got cold, bottled food. Do call them and check on what food to expect and always pack your own just in case. By the way, most airports are quite kind when you travel with infants, we managed to bring in 2 bottles of hot/warm water onto our flight. Policies may change, but you can definitely try to take your chance like us!
