What to do at Taipei 101? 5 Things to do at Taipei 101
1) Take in the view - Pay for an Observatory E-Ticket that will cost you about USD$18 which you can buy from Klook to enjoy some savings. Redeem your e-ticket at level 5 and find yourself on the 89th floor in just 34 seconds! Your children will certainly love the thrill of being able to take an amazing elevator ride and they will be definitely be enraptured by the awesome view on top.
2) Buy souvenirs - Time is of the essence when you have kids. Taiwan has lots of goodies but with young kids, you may not always get to hit all the foodie spots. At Taipei 101, you can buy taiwanese pineapple cakes and dried beef jerky for your loved ones at home. Prices are not exorbitant, just head down to the basement where you can buy all the best selections of Taiwanese goodies. There are a fair selection (at least 5 different brands) of Pineapple tarts and beef/pork jerky for you to choose from. It is a much better collection than at the airport. You get to taste before you buy too! Spend NT$2000 (pls verify amount with the staff as it may vary) and you can get tax rebates as a tourist.
3) Dine at the popular Din Tai Fung - this may not be THE exact original outlet but it is a highly popular one! In case you didn't know, DTF was founded at Xinyi Road (信義路) next to the Yongkang Street (永康街). We were there at Christmas eve and the waiting time as 70mins! If you are a fan of DTF, you may want to try one in taiwan. But be prepared to wait or go there as early as you can and definitely avoid weekends!
4) Shop like a Tai-Tai
It will be weird if we don't mention about shopping at Taipei 101 (6 levels of shops excluding B1 Foodcourt). Like Orchard Ion in Singapore or Suria KLCC in KL,Malaysia, Taipei 101 is home to many posh brands. If Kardashian is your last name, you will be thrill to find luxury brands like De Beers, Chanel, Prada all under one roof. Other brands includeTiffany & Co., Gucci, Versace and Saint Laurent.
5) Teach the kids a lesson!
We don't mean it in the bad way. Rather, talk architecture/geography/engineering with your kids. If you don't already know, Taiwan is one of the countries most prone to earthquakes. Taipei 101 is one of the tallest buildings in the world yet it is designed to withstand earthquakes. The big ball (730 ton) smacked in the middle of the building is structurally designed to withstand earthquakes and typhoons. Definitely inspirational and a great conversational starter for future careers.
